The second time coming back brought many indescribable emotions. From the capital, following the instructions of Google Map, I followed the peaceful dyke road of the suburbs of Hanoi on a sunny day in June. This was the first time I felt the burning sun. During 100km, I was shocked by the blazing heat emanating from the road surface as if it wanted to melt the motorbike’s wheels, and there were not many trees around. At that time, I just wished to run quickly back to the homestay to escape this unpleasant sun near Tam Coc Ninh Binh. After taking a lunch break and waiting for the sun to cool down, I started my journey to discover in 24 hours with a series of old and new places.
About 10km from the city
About 10km from the city, Am Tien Cave near Tam Coc Ninh Binh has poetic beauty and charming scenery. After buying an entrance ticket of 20,000 VND/person (not including parking fee), you will go through a super long tunnel to visit. This scenic spot is a valley with a clear blue lake lying peacefully between four sides of craggy cliffs and trees. Legend has it that this place was once a execution ground to punish criminals during the Dinh Dynasty. The first destination I visited was Am Tien Pagoda, which worships Buddha and Queen Duong Van Nga.
I was truly overwhelmed by the majesty of the space here. Although it is only a small temple surrounded by steep cliffs, the mysterious beauty of this place seems to be swept away in a fairyland. Standing in front of the temple yard, I zoomed my eyes to see an eye-catching green color of trees growing densely on the limestone mountains. At that moment, I truly felt how peaceful and pure my mind was. Following the smooth concrete road around Ao Giai near Tam Coc Ninh Binh, I walked to the place known as “great love cup”. The first thing that caught my eye was a solid gate like in historical movies, standing firmly between the surrounding rocky mountains. From the balustrade of the city wall, you can zoom in to admire the breathtaking beauty of the great love cup from above.
