Tet dance is an important and well-prepared festival of the Dao people in Ta Van in Sapa Vietnam. This festival usually takes place at the house of the head of the family and members of the family are busy to help the host prepare the ceremony. The ancestral altar is usually located in the middle, towards the main kitchen, decorated with colorful patterns. On the altar, there is a paper-cut paper-cut symbol of the rooster and the Tam Thanh crest. The two sides of the altar stick couplets on rosemary paper with the content of praying for “People are safe and prosperous”, “When drinking water, remember the source”.

Depending on each family in Sapa Vietnam, Tet dance festival can be held on the 1st or 2nd day of Tet. When the ceremony is held, the whole family gathers at the house of the head of the family. Men assist in the ceremony and participate in field dancing, but only a few capable men can do “Sai grass” (people who practice dancing). After the ancestor reporting ceremony, the shaman guides the “grass beds” to dance 14 dances. Each dance represents a different movement and has its own meaning.

Tet dance takes place from the end of the Dragon hour to the Rooster hour, combining many types of folk art. It is the art of dance interwoven with the art of music. It is the verbal art of telling about the legends of the family, the merits of ancestors, the visual art with all kinds of worship paintings, paper-cutting paintings, wooden sculptures, etc., rich in national identity and imbued with humanity in Sapa Vietnam.
