The average annual air temperature of Sapa Viet Nam is 15 °C. In summer, the town does not have to suffer from the harsh sun like the coastal plain, about 13 °C – 15 °C at night and 20 °C – 25 °C during the day. Winters are often cloudy and cold, with temperatures sometimes below 0 °C and snowfall. The average annual rainfall here ranges from 1,800 to 2,200 mm, most concentrated in the period from May to August.

Sapa is one of the rare places where it snows in Vietnam. During the period from 1957 to 2013, 21 times it snowed in Sa Pa. The heaviest snowfall was on February 13, 1968, continuously from 3 am to 2 pm on the same day, up to 20 cm thick.
